Semi-permanent makeup FAQ

Q: What is semi-permanent makeup?

A: Semi-permanent makeup is also known as microblading, feather touch, feather stroke or feathering. It is used to enhance or reshape eyebrows, eyeliner and lips for up to five years depending on the technique.

Microblading eyebrows is the process of individually drawing hair strokes to mimic natural brow hairs to achieve desired shape and fullness. This procedure can reconstruct brows, add definition, fill in over-plucked brows or gaps, and add a slight arch to the natural brow.

The semi-permanent eyeliner procedure is like having smudge-proof eyeliner perfectly shaped and professionally applied. It can be as natural or dramatic as you like, or used to fill in sparse eyelashes. This procedure is ideal for eyes that water easily or have allergies to makeup.

Semi-permanent lip liner achieves a perfectly shaped mouth by re-countouring the vermillion border. Lift your complexion with a subtle flush of colour, add volume and fullness, and restore youthful definition to an asymmetrical or thinning lip.

Q: What is the difference between a manual and mechanical technique?

A: There are two techniques: one is purely manual and the other also uses a mechanical tool. Both are hand-held, pen-like devices allowing the finest detail and ultimate control. Manual technique (also known as 3D) lasts up to two years. The mechanical tool (also known as 6D) yields hyper-realistic results that last up to five years. Both take two hours and have a similar sensation and healing time.

Q: Is semi-permanent makeup safe?

A: Yes, I follow the strictest hygiene and sterilisation standards, using mineral, hypoallergenic makeup.

Q: What is the procedure?

A: An initial consultation is required to discuss the procedure, ideal results and what to expect. I draw the shape with a removable pencil until the desired look is achieved. The best customised shape and colour is tailored for clients individually.

Before the microblading begins, a topical numbing cream is applied to the area to minimise discomfort. This is continually applied to ensure client comfort.

I use a microblading pen to draw on individual strokes one by one. The treated area will be approximately 30% darker than the final result after your first appointment. While there’s no down time, the full healing process can take up to 2 weeks, during which you may experience scaling and peeling.

A follow-up appointment 4 weeks after your initial treatment is critical to achieve the most desirable end result.

Q: Will it hurt?

A: Unlike traditional tattoo makeup, there is no downtime with semi-permanent makeup. Some clients may feel slight discomfort, but it’s relatively painless. The skin may turn red, similar to eyebrow waxing.

Q: What ink is used?

A: The ink I use to specially formulated for microblading. The mineral makeup is hypoallergenic, tartazine-free and contains no heavy metals. The products are vegan-friendly and not tested on animals.

Q: How long does semi-permanent makeup last?

A: Up to 2 years using a purely manual technique and up to 5 years using an additional mechanical tool. How long the results last will vary depending on your skin type, exposure to sun and after care.

Q: How long does the procedure take?

A: Approximately 2 hours. A follow up appointment is scheduled as part of the treatment 4 weeks after your initial appointment.

Q: If I’m getting feather stroke eyebrows, should I have them waxed or tweezed first?

A: Shape your eyebrows 2-3 days before your appointment. This is offered as a complimentary service at your request.

Q: How do I maintain them?

A: See aftercare
